Hugh Wynne
PARTNER
Hugh Wynne is the Co-Founder and Partner of Power Research Group, LLC, and the Co-Head of Utilities and Renewable Energy Research at SSR LLC since 2016.

Hugh was previously Managing Director and Senior Research Analyst at Bernstein Research, where he was responsible for the regulated utility, independent power and renewable energy sectors. In that role, he was ranked nine times by Institutional Investor in its annual All-American Research Team poll. Before joining Bernstein, Hugh was Vice President of Finance at ABB Energy Ventures, the private equity and power project development subsidiary of ABB Asea Brown Boveri, which was charged with making equity investments in and arranging non-recourse financing for power generation and infrastructure projects around the world. Before joining ABB, Hugh was a Senior Vice President in Lehman Brothers' Emerging Markets Group and, subsequently, in its Utilities and Project Finance Group. Hugh began his career in the Merchant Banking Group with of The Chase Manhattan Bank. Key transactions included syndicated loan financings and corporate debt restructurings for Latin American state and private enterprises including Petrobras in Brazil, YPF in Argentina, Banco del Estado in Chile, and Industrias Unidas, Empresas Lanzagorta and Cuprum in Mexico. 

Hugh earned his bachelor’s degree from Harvard University, where he graduated magna cum laude and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa, and holds a master’s degree in Economics from Stanford University

Major investments and financing's included:

  • Privatization and 750 MW expansion of a gas-fired power plant in Barranquilla, Colombia

  • Financing and construction of a 480 MW combined cycle gas turbine plant in Monterrey, Mexico

  • Financing and construction of a 540 MW combined cycle gas turbine plant in Rosarito, Mexico

  • Financing and construction of a 275 MW integrated gasification combined cycle plant in Ancona, Italy

  • Acquisition and non-recourse financing of the South Australia power transmission grid

 

 

Key transactions included:

  • Advising the Republic of Venezuela on the privatization of the state telecoms monopoly CANTV

  • Advising the Republic of Indonesia on the privatization of state enterprises, including the initial public offering of the long distance telecoms company PT Indosat

  • The capital markets financing of Centragas, an Enron-sponsored gas pipeline in Colombia

  • The initial public offering of the Venezuelan paper manufacturer Venalum

  • The initial public offering of Chilean copper fabricator MADECO
